Waterbury, CT (January 9, 2022) – A fire broke out at an apartment building in Waterbury on Sunday morning, January 9, injuring three residents and leaving several others displaced.
A Waterbury Fire Chief said that the incident happened at the East Gate Apartments, located at 2171 East Main Street. The fire was called in around 5:00 a.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw flames erupting from the second floor of a four-story complex. The residents of that building were evacuated to another at the apartments to be kept out of the cold.
Three of the residents were transported to a hospital and were said to be suffering from smoke inhalation. Their current conditions are not known.
The cause of the fire is unclear at this time, though officials say their investigation is active.
