Willimantic, CT (March 22, 2022) – Three people were hospitalized following a two-alarm fire that broke out in Willimantic on Tuesday morning, March 22.
Around 9:00 a.m., fire rescue crews responded to an apartment building on Main Street for the blaze. One victim, an adult male, was hanging out of the window as a dump truck driver approached, just before firefighters arrived, and the driver helped the man escape. A Willimantic Police detective then began rendering aid to the victim.
The victim was later taken to a hospital in Rhode Island via Lifestar Medical Helicopter.
A K9 officer with the Willimantic Police Department, patrolling the area at the time of the fire, charged up the stairs to the third floor and helped rescue two other people.
The other two victims were also brought to a local hospital, though the current conditions of all three victims remain unknown.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and further details have not been provided at this time.
