Enfield, CT – Man Dies, Suspect Charged in DUI Accident on I-91

Enfield, CT (November 12, 2021) – Connecticut State Police are investigating a two-vehicle accident that left one man dead early Friday morning, November 12, in Hartford County.

Officers arrived on the scene of the crash, on I-91, around 12:45 a.m. According to troopers, a 60-year-old Chicopee man was driving his 2004 Scion northbound in the right lane when another motorist, a 24-year-old Feeding Hills man, was driving his 2013 Hyundai Sonata behind him.

The Hyundai’s driver then struck the Scion from behind, sending both cars out of control, and killing the driver of the Scion. EMS personnel attempted life-saving measures but pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Officers also noticed that the Sonata driver showed signs of impairment. They administered field sobriety tests, which the man failed, police said.

The man, who did not suffer injuries in the wreck, was arrested and transported to Troop H for processing. He was charged with DUI/liquor or drugs and released on a $150,000 surety bond.

Police expect additional charges in connection with the wreck and say the case remains under investigation.

Any witness to the collision is asked to contact Trooper John Wilson.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim.

Deadly Auto Accidents in Connecticut

Enfield, CT - Man Dies, Suspect Charged in DUI Accident on I-91

According to Connecticut officials, the number of people killed on roadways statewide in 2020 alone was at its highest since 2016. And per the Transportation Safety Research Center, speed is the leading cause of most of these fatal collisions.

In fact, police reported more than 80,000 traffic accidents, generally caused by drivers breaking traffic laws. Authorities cited reckless driving, distracted driving, and DUI as other top contributors to serious collisions.

Most of these Connecticut vehicle accidents are preventable. However, wrecks continue to rise year over year. And unfortunately, the victims of these incidents must endure tragic circumstances as a result.

Sadly, many of these victims undergo emergency medical treatment and spend weeks or even months in recovery. To make things even worse, victims often require costly physical therapy, time-consuming treatment for emotional trauma, and more.
