Hamden, CT (October 15, 2021) – Firefighters from the Hamden Fire Department were called to the scene of a deadly blaze on Thursday evening, October 14.
According to a report from authorities, a 56-year-old woman died and nearly 40 other residents were displaced after the massive three-alarm fire broke out in an apartment complex in Hamden. The victim reportedly died of smoke inhalation.
The fire erupted on Kaye Vue Drive in the Kaye Vue Plaza shortly before 9:00 p.m., HFD officials noted. They added that they called for mutual aid from surrounding towns due to the speed of the fire spread. Firefighters pulled the victim from the complex’s top floor and medics rushed her to an area medical center. However, she was later pronounced dead at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
A 21-year-old man was also rescued from a third-floor apartment and was treated for smoke inhalation, though he is expected to recover.
The fire remains under investigation. It’s unclear if any other victims suffered injuries.
