Seymour, CT – Police Investigate Injury Crash on Rte 8 at Wakeley St

Seymour, CT (October 5, 2021) – A serious car accident occurred in Seymour on Tuesday evening, October 5, and ended in major injuries for at least one victim.

Authorities say that one person had to be taken to the hospital after the crash on Route 8, which happened around 7:30 p.m.

Seymour fire rescue units said they responded to the area of exit 22 to Wakeley Street on the northbound side of the highway around that time.

Upon their arrival to the scene, they discovered two vehicles collided in an apparent chain-reaction crash, with one more car possibly involved.

The person was turned over to emergency crews for treatment, though the extent of their injuries is unknown at this time. It’s also unclear if any other individual suffered injuries in the collision.

The crash remains under investigation at this time. Seymour Police Department officers say they will release further details in the coming week.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of a full recovery.

Connecticut authorities say the number of people who died on the state’s roads in 2020 was the highest since 2016. In fact, police reported more than 80,000 traffic accidents, generally caused by speeding or reckless driving.

And according to data released by the Connecticut Transportation Safety Research Center, speed is the top cause of the majority of these deadly accidents. Oftentimes, these car crashes are rollover wrecks, increasing the risk of serious injury to the victims involved.

Thankfully, most of these incidents are preventable. However, wrecks continue to rise year over year. And the victims must endure tragic circumstances as a result.

Unfortunately, many of these victims undergo emergency medical treatment and spend weeks or even months in recovery. To add insult to injury, victims often require costly physical therapy, time-consuming treatment for emotional trauma, and more.
