Windsor, CT (September 21, 2021) – A serious auto accident occurred in Hartford on Monday morning, September 20, leaving several victims hospitalized.
Students in the Upper Freehold Regional School district were among the five victims hospitalized in the Mercer County crash, officials said.
A Nissan sedan carrying the teens reportedly hit a Toyota pickup truck head-on near the intersection of Windsor-Perrineville Road and Cedarville Road in East Windsor around 7:00 a.m., local police said.
The driver of the Nissan and one passenger both sustained serious injuries, though they were able to exit the vehicle on their own. A front passenger in the sedan required extended extrication by firefighters.
The fourth passenger, seated in the right rear, was unconscious and removed from the car by an East Windsor patrol officer.
All four teens, ranging in age from 14 to 17, suffered serious injuries. The driver and sole occupant of the pickup sustained minor injuries, according to East Windsor Det. Sgt. Thomas Meyer. Two of the teens were airlifted to an area medical center, he added. Their current conditions were not made public.
Officers say their investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing and have not released further details.
