Bristol, CT – Man Rescued, Hospitalized in Two-Car Crash at Riverside Ave & Downs St

Bristol, CT (March 15, 2022) – A man was rescued from a burning car in an auto accident that took place on Monday afternoon, March 15.

Officers with the Bristol Police Department were dispatched around 12:00 p.m. to the intersection of Riverside Avenue and Downs Street, where a two-car crash occurred. One of the vehicles involved began to emit heavy smoke and caught fire as a result of the collision.

Multiple officers and a Good Samaritan helped rescue the only occupant in the vehicle, an adult male. He was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, though medics said they are not considered life-threatening. Firefighters also responded to extinguish the car fire.

The other driver involved did not report serious injuries, but EMTs evaluated them at the scene as a precaution.

The investigation into the cause of the wreck is still ongoing, and authorities have not provided further information at this time.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families. We hope for their complete recovery.

Serious Vehicle Accidents in Connecticut

Bristol, CT - Man Rescued, Hospitalized in Two-Car Crash at Riverside Ave & Downs StAnalysts with the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Office of Highway Safety reported an alarming trend of increased deaths and injuries from serious auto accidents in the last year. In fact, according to the most recent data, traffic-related fatalities throughout the state are up nearly 16% from a year ago.

Nationwide, an estimated 20,200 people died in motor vehicle crashes in the first half of 2021, an increase of nearly 19% over 2020. Authorities say this figure marks the largest number of projected fatalities in that time period since 2006.

Additionally, during the pandemic, driving patterns and behaviors across the country changed significantly. Speeding increased dramatically, along with aggressive driving, and pre-pandemic routines haven’t fully returned. As more workers return to the office and to the state’s roadways, officials caution that injuries and deaths from motor vehicle accidents may rise further.
