Two people died in the wreck, according to authorities, including a 21-year-old woman from New Haven and a 50-year-old woman from Windsor. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene by medics, while a passenger in one of the vehicles was taken to Hartford Hospital for serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Initial reports indicate that the 21-year-old woman, driving a Camry, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-91, causing the head-on collision.

The events leading up to the accident are still under investigation, however, and urged officers anyone who witnessed the incident to reach out to CSP Troop I

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims. Our thoughts are with the injured victim in hopes of a full recovery.

Meriden, CT - Wrong-Way Accident on I-91 Leaves Two Women Dead, One HurtConnecticut has the fourth-highest fatality rate nationwide due to wrong-way driving crashes, despite a general decrease in the number of these crashes during the past few years. Sadly, per Connecticut officials, the number of people killed on roadways statewide in 2020 alone was at its highest since 2016. Unfortunately, the victims of these incidents must endure tragic circumstances as a result. Many of these victims undergo emergency medical treatment and spend weeks or even months in recovery. To make things even worse, victims often require costly physical therapy, time-consuming treatment for emotional trauma, and more. In the case that victims succumb to their injuries, their grieving families are left to pick up the pieces.
