Seymour, CT (February 16, 2022) – A person was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries after an accident happened on Wednesday afternoon, February 16, according to reports from Connecticut State Police.
Troopers were dispatched to northbound Route 8 near Exit 21 in Seymour around 3:15 p.m. for a report of a head-on crash, Sgt. Dawn Pagan said. One victim was taken to an area medical center with serious injuries, Pagan added.
Both directions of Route 8 were shut down, and police asked drivers to seek alternate routes. The CSP’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad are still investigating at this time and have not released further details.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of a full recovery.
Serious Car Accidents in Connecticut
Connecticut authorities say the number of people who died on the state’s roads in 2020 was the highest since 2016. In fact, police reported more than 80,000 traffic accidents, generally caused by speeding or reckless driving. According to data released by the Connecticut Transportation Safety Research Center, speed is the top cause of the majority of these deadly accidents. Oftentimes, these car crashes are rollover wrecks, increasing the risk of serious injury to the victims involved.
Serious collisions continue to rise year over year, and victims must endure unimaginable circumstances as a result. Many of these victims undergo emergency medical treatment and spend weeks or even months in recovery. To make things even more difficult, victims often require costly physical therapy, time-consuming treatment for emotional trauma, and more.
