Berlin, CT (November 10, 2021) – A serious auto accident left one Middletown woman dead and two children injured in the Berlin area on Wednesday afternoon, November 10.
The crash impacted both sides of Route 9 in Berlin for several hours and occurred around 1:30 p.m. Initial reports from State Police indicate that a 2009 Chrysler Town Country LX was traveling in the left lane on southbound Route 9 when it veered to the left for unknown reasons. The vehicle then struck the guide rail in the median and collided with a concrete bridge support.
Troopers discovered the minivan across the left lane and median when they first arrived at the crash site.
The driver of the minivan, identified as a 44-year-old Middletown woman, died at the scene.
Her two passengers, 3-year-old and 2-year-old boys, were both transported to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center with minor injuries.
Anyone that may have witnessed the incident or anyone who may have dashcam footage of the accident is asked to contact Trooper First Class John Wilson assigned to the State Police barracks in Hartford.
The investigation remains active at this time.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim. Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of a full recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Connecticut
According to Connecticut officials, the number of people killed on roadways statewide in 2020 alone was at its highest since 2016. And per the Transportation Safety Research Center, speed is the leading cause of most of these fatal collisions.
In fact, police reported more than 80,000 traffic accidents, generally caused by drivers breaking traffic laws. Authorities cited speeding, reckless driving, and DUI as top contributors to serious collisions.
Most of these Connecticut vehicle accidents are preventable. However, wrecks continue to rise year over year. And unfortunately, the victims of these incidents must endure tragic circumstances as a result.
Sadly, many of these victims undergo emergency medical treatment and spend weeks or even months in recovery. To make things even worse, victims often require costly physical therapy, time-consuming treatment for emotional trauma, and more.
When people sustain serious injuries in accidents caused by the actions of other motorists, they should reach out to an auto accident attorney in New Haven as soon as possible. Compensation may be available to help with the financial burdens you are now facing.
