Cheshire, CT (January 7, 2022) – An accident involving multiple drivers occurred on Interstate 691 Friday evening, January 7, causing injuries.
Two vehicles collided in the incident, which happened in the eastbound lanes of I-691 at Exit 3 to Route 10, around 7:15 p.m. According to state police, they are still piecing together the events leading up to the crash. Officers were on-scene to collect evidence for several hours, however, causing major traffic jams.
Paramedics took at least one person to an area hospital by ambulance and others were treated at the scene. However, the extent of the victims’ injuries, as well as their current conditions, remains unknown.
The crash is still under investigation. Officers with the Cheshire Police Department say they will release further information in the coming days.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of a full recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Connecticut
Per reports released by officials with the Connecticut Department of Transportation, the number of people killed on roadways statewide in 2020 was at its highest since 2016, despite the COVID-19 pandemic contributing to fewer cars on the road overall. And per the Transportation Safety Research Center, speed is the leading cause of most of these fatal collisions.
Sadly, police reported more than 75,000 traffic accidents, generally caused by drivers breaking traffic laws. Authorities cited speeding, reckless driving, and DUI as top contributors to serious collisions.
Most of these Connecticut vehicle accidents are preventable. However, serious crashes continue to rise year over year. Unfortunately, the victims of these incidents must endure tragic circumstances as a result.
Sadly, many of these victims undergo emergency medical treatment and spend weeks or even months in recovery. To make things even worse, victims often require costly physical therapy, time-consuming treatment for emotional trauma, and more.
When people sustain serious injuries in accidents caused by the actions of other motorists, they should reach out to an auto accident attorney as soon as possible. Compensation may be available to help with the financial burdens you are now facing.
